Among the San Andreu and Sagrera districts, near the Meridiana Avenue, is the former Meridiana dog track (which is called Canódromo Meridiana), an emblematic rationalist building of the sixties, designed by the architect Antonio Bonet Castellana, one of the most influential architects in the rationalist architecture of our country.

The Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) presents Motor of Modernity. Grup R. Architecture, Art and Design, an exhibition that examines the impact of this group’s activities in the consolidation of modernity in Catalan architecture, art and design after the Civil War. The buildings designed by members of Grup R. have now become valuable examples of the modern architectural heritage, while the exhibitions, competitions and debates that they organised helped to boost and internationalise Catalan culture, aligning it with the main European trends and debates of the time. This exhibition reinstates an episode that is crucial to understanding the tensions between modernity and the avant-garde in Catalonia from the second half of the twentieth century up until today.

As we already mentioned in our blog a few months ago, rents in the city of Barcelona have recorded in the last semester a pressure to decrease which many companies are taking advantage to move or reduce their corporate headquarters. According to the consulting firm Cushman & Wakefield, the city of Barcelona has registered in the last quarter an average price on office rents of 18.00 € / m2 per month, a value that decreases to € 16.50 / m2 in the case of offices in emerging areas of the city such as 22@. The inoccupation rate in the city is standing at about 10% generating a price war to low rents.

K+K Hotels based in Austria has selected Barcelona as the location for its new Boutique Hotel in order to expand its presence in major European capitals. Following the guidelines of the company, the hotel is located in one of the most central and representative areas of the city: the Born district, just a few meters from Ciutadella Parc. With a total of 92 rooms -5 of them suites-, the hotel is integrated into the strict architectural scheme of Picasso Avenue, established in 1872 by architect Josep Fontseré i Mestres which regulates the height and morphology of buildings to clear a pedestrian arcade.
