The opening date of the new Hotel Picasso Barcelona is near

As we anticipated in our blog a few months ago, Wortmann Architects is developing the project for the new Picasso Hotel in Barcelona owned by the Austrian company K+K Hotels.

Following the formula “four & more” K + K hotels offer a high quality service in the heart of European capitals. The unique atmosphere of their hotels is achieved through the close collaboration between international artists and architects that produces contemporary and comfortable spaces with warm, modern and stylish design.

The group K + K has selected the studio Wortmann Architects for integrated planning and management of works. In addition the studio led by Rachel Beckett, R-Interiors, based in London, will be responsible for the interior design including selection of materials and furnishings.

The Picasso Hotel Barcelona will be the first hotel the company opens in Spain and it will be located in one of the most emblematic neighborhoods of the city, the Born district, an area limited by the Ciutadella Park. The Avenue Picasso was planned in 1872 by the architect Josep Fontseré i Mestres and it is known by its high porches which require buildings to retire and give space to pedestrians.

The construction work which began in March 2011 is on schedule and the opening is planned for the next month of June. Last week, Heinrich Koller, CEO at K+K hotels, and Bernard Koller, K+K Director of Property Management and Development, visited the progress of works with Johannes Wortmann.

Here we share some pictures of the site visit:
